Concept Review
Congratulations on finishing the Advanced section! Here, we can review the concepts from this section and then complete some activities and a final challenge.
Programming Concepts
Bump and Ultrasonic Sensors
Bump sensors, also called 'touch sensors,' sense physical touch. The robot can use this type of sensor to adjust its path if it runs into something!
Ultrasonic sensors, also called 'distance sensors,' measure distance from the robot to another object. This sensor does this by emitting ultrasonic waves and measuring the time it takes for the waves to be reflected back to the sensor. The robot can use this type of sensor to adjust its path if it is getting too close to another object!

Object Manipulation
Plows apply force to one side of an object, pushing it out of the way rather than lifting it up.
Scoops apply force underneath an object to lift and carry it using gravity to keep the object in the basket.
Friction grabbers apply force in at least two locations of an object to pinch and carry it.
Lifting Mechanisms
Rotating Joints
Most commonly portrayed as an arm appendage that rotates around a central point to lift an object
Linkages
Linkages are made up of smaller components called links with freely moving joints, when the links move in tandem the output motion allows for an object to be lifted
Elevators
Elevators use linear motion to lift objects vertically
