Advanced Level 1

Lesson 4

Testing with Robbie the Robot

Test your robot

Guidelines:

Your robot will be required to navigate to the generator

Your robot needs to avoid moving any obstacles on the course.

Step 1: Importance of Testing

Can someone remind me why testing is important?

Well what should I do while I'm testing?

What should I do when the test is done?

Testing is important because it is a step in the engineering design process. Testing allows you to understand if the robot is able to complete the task it's designed for. If something goes wrong then you know that the robot requires a redesign.

You should be observing your robot. This is when you make sure your robot is following all the guidelines. Make a note of any troubles the robot has and any improvements that can be made.

The first thing you should do is repeat the test. You want to make sure that the result you got can be repeated. After that, you should discuss your results and

redesign if necessary. Repeating the process of testing and redesigning allows you to develop a working robot

Step 2: Observe and Discuss

Observe your robot during the challenge and discuss the following questions.

  • Did your robot complete the challenge?

  • What worked well?

  • What did your robot have trouble with?

Record your observations and discussion in your engineering notebook.

  1. Redesign your robot based on your observations.

  2. Record what changes you make and what your robot does differently this time.

Step 3: Challenge

  1. Can you complete the challenge faster this time?

  2. Can you complete the chalenge without touching any of the obstacles?

Congrats you've completed Advanced Level 1!
